Yesterday I reported that Blizzard was selling a new mount for World of Warcraft, the Celestial Steed for a pricey $25. I say pricey, I was then immediately corrected that it was a very reasonable price and that rare mounts go for hundreds on e-bay.
With that in mind a possible 140,000 people attempted to buy the $25 Celestial Steed mount and a $10 Lil' XT pet within the first 6 hours of them going on sale, which such a high volume the Blizzard store ended up putting purchasers in queues. Online cues to buy virtual goods! Course they weren’t called queues they were called "controlled batches of visitors" which limited the number of people that could finalise the purchase, some people were in the queue for up to 7 hours!
According to WOW.com a massive 140,000 people attempted to get the items (although Blizzard itself says 80,000). Let’s say that it was 140,000 and that all those people purchased the Steed and not the pet then Blizzard made $3,500,000 within the first day while if all the 140,000 people only purchased the pet then Blizzard only made $1,400,000.
