Lost Planet 2 has so much content that it doesn’t fit on the Xbox 360 disk, this is according to producer Jun Takeuchi in a recent interview "This time, truly, the content that was cut was significant," he said, "and at the end, we had to wrestle with disc space." Going on further to say we may see the lost content appearing as DLCs in the near future.
There is a problem with this though as the PS3’s Blue Ray disks hold a lot more information so any cuts that were legitimately cut due to size constraint would appear in the PS3 version. As of yet I’ve heard of no comment on this subject but hopefully will learn more about it soon.
As you may have noticed this is becoming more and more common, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed 2 had to cut out two segments from the game due to “time constraints” and both appeared as DLCs (one was released today) but because of the massive game in the first place and the cheap price of the DLC many didn’t complain. Less successfully was the Resident Evil 5 multiplayer DLC which many claim was already on the disk and that we were just paying to unlock it, that didn’t go down so well.
Like it or not, whether a great way to get additional content to players or additional money to companies downloadable content is here to stay.
